Classical canto

The classical canto section of the 3rd “Lauri” Stage Performance Contest brings a new classification of the age groups and a jury consisting of professionals – opera singers who have collaborated/ worked with the most important lyrical theatres in the country and abroad during their careers.

Therefore, the participants of the Classical Canto section, between 15 and 18 years old (9-12 grades), will interpret during the contest a work from the Romanian repertory (aria or lied) and an aria belonging to the pre-classical, classical or romantic period.

The participants that are over 18 years old (students and graduates) will interpret, during the contest, a lied (Romanian or universal creation from any period) and two arias from two different periods.

The music sheets will be handed in for the jury, and the repertory will be sung from memory in the original tone and language. General terms and Conditions

Soprano singer Diana Țugui

The opera Opera Soprano Diana Țugui The opera Opera Soprano has graduated from the “George Enescu” Music Highschool in Bucharest and the Bucharest University of Music – the canto section, and she has earned several different awards at prestigious competitions, such as the “Elena Teodorini” International Contest 1st prize, the “Vox Artis” International Contest 1st prize, the Grand Prize of the “Ionel Perlea” National Artistic Interpretation of Lied Contest, the 1st prize at the “Martian Negrea” National Artistic Interpretation Contest.

At the moment she is the soloist of the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca and her impressive repertory includes roles such as Konstanze (Die Entführung), Pamina (Die Zauberflöte), Susanna (Le Nozze di Figaro), Liu (Turandot), Mimi and Musetta (La Bohème), Lisette (La Rondine), Micaela (Carmen), Violetta Valery (La Traviata), Gilda (Rigoletto), Nanetta (Falstaff), Oscar (Un Ballo in Maschera), Lucia (Lucia di Lammermoor), Rosina (Il Barbiere di Siviglia), Valencienne (Die lüstige Witwe), different vocal-symphonic works such as Requiem KV 626 by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Matthäus Passion by Johann Sebastian Bach and Petite messe solenelle by Gioacchino Rossini.

During her career, she has been on tours in Germany, Sweden, France, Spain, Italy, Switzerland, and Bulgary

Bass-baritone singer Cristian Hodrea

Cristian Dan Hodrea has graduated from the “Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy, bachelor and graduate degree, and at the moment he is working on his doctor’s degree at “Sigismund Toduță” doctoral school. The title of his thesis is “the buffo bass – the representative character of the Italian Belcanto”. During 2000-2011 he has practiced as an artist singer of “Transilvania” State Philarmonic (Cluj-Napoca), and at the moment he is a soloist at the Romanian National Opera in Cluj-Napoca. His teaching career started in 2014 as a Ph.D. university assistant professor at the “Gheorghe Dima” Music Academy, Piatra-Neamț Branch. He became an associate member of the teaching staff of the Music Academy in Cluj-Napoca. During his career he approached works such as „Don Giovanni” (Leporello), „The enchanted flute” (Papageno), „Le Nozze di Figaro” (Contele Almaviva), „Il Matrimonio Segreto” (Contele Robinson), „The Barber from Sevilla” (Don Bartolo), „La Cenerentola” (Don Magnifico, Alindoro), „L’Elisir d’Amore” (Dulcamara), „Don Pasquale”, „I Puritani” (Sir Giorgio), „Un Ballo in Maschera” (Samuel), „Turandot” (Ping), „Boema” (Schaunard), „Werther” (Albert), but also works of the vocal-symphonic repertory, the most important are „Messiah” (Haendel), „Matthäus-Passion” and „Johannes-Passion” (Bach), „Requiem” (Mozart), The 9Symphonyony (Beethoven), „The Easter Oratorio” (Paul Constantinescu).
